Welcome high schools! This is your resource center. If you are new to the UA Scholars Program, please read the Program Information Booklet.
Online Designation Process
The online designation process is now open for the class of 2010. Each high school principal is required to select one individual to serve as the UA Scholars authorized representative who will be responsible for completing the online designation process. If you have your school's code and are ready to designate your class of 2010 UA Scholars, please click here.
Before you designate your Scholars make sure to read the Program Information Booklet in its entirety. The accuracy of your list is extremely important! Check and double-check your list before submitting it. Your students are counting on you! Remember to designate by the October 1 deadline.
In May we will start the designation process for the next class of UA Scholars and will provide you with a new code to access the online designation process.
Certificates
Each year in late April, we mail all high schools the UA Scholar certificates of recognition to school counselors. We encourage you to present the certificates to your UA Scholars at your awards or graduation ceremony.
Important information to share with your UA Scholars
Scholar Receptions - UA President Mark Hamilton hosts these events every fall Anchorage, Juneau and Fairbanks. We welcome and encourage counselors to attend the events and celebrate with your Scholars. It's a great time to meet representatives (students, faculty and staff) from the three main campuses and learn more about the exciting opportunities awaiting your students at the University of Alaska. Refreshments are served and parking is free at all events. Click here for more information on the events.
Application Deadline - All Scholars must apply for admission to a UA Campus by May 1 of the school year in which they're expected to graduate from high school, or their Award will permanently expire. Scholars can apply online at uaonline.alaska.edu. Scholars who wish to utilize their leave of absence must still apply by the May 1 deadline and postpone their Award by notifying their admissions office. Please visit our Resource page for campus contact information.
Additional Aid - Encourage all of your students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Additional guidance is available through our financial aid offices and information on privately funded scholarships for UA students is online at alaska.edu/foundation.
Discretionary Eligibility Reconsideration
Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria for designation at the end of their junior year, but are in the top 10 percent of their class after all grades are posted at the end of their senior year, may submit a written request for discretionary reconsideration of eligibility to the UA Scholars Program Administrator. This request must be made by the high school's authorized representative on the student's behalf. This request must include certification that as of the end of the student's senior year the student meets the high school's original designation criteria and be accompanied by an official transcript which indicates the student's final class ranking compared to the graduating class. Please make sure to include the student's contact information.
Requests for discretionary reconsideration will take into account the size of the senior class at the time of graduation and such other criteria as the Program Administrator deems appropriate. All documentation must be received by the Program Administrator no later than 30 days after graduation. All determinations by the Program Administrator are final. Scholars who receive Awards through this process must, to the extent possible, also fulfill the requirements listed under Obligations of the Student.
