To avoid contracting the virus, wash hands frequently in warm, soapy water; avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth; and stay in good general health, getting plenty of sleep, fluids, nutritious foods and exercise and managing stress.
Stay informed and follow public health advice aimed at reducing spread of the virus, such as avoiding crowds. Keep a supply of food, medicines and other supplies on hand in case you become ill.
Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze; discard the tissue and wash your hands.
Symptoms of swine flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. If you develop these symptoms, stay at home and contact your physician.
