Ramona McAfee, a graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, became the Director of Distance Education and Military Services in September 2007.

From 1987 to the present, McAfee has worked for the University in providing educational services for the military communities in Alaska, becoming the Site Director for the northern military installations (Eielson AFB, Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely and Clear AS) in 1999. In 2001 she became the Director for the Office of Education Services for the Military, overseeing UA programs and services at all installations in Alaska, the second person to hold this position.

The military voluntary education program is heavily engaged with the world of distance education and it is from this background that McAfee was tapped to lead the UA Education Technology Team. She has served on the former Distance Ed Consortium and the UAA Academic Steering Committee for Distance Education.

McAfee is on the executive committee for the National Association of Institutions for Military Education and is the chair of the NAIMES Student Spotlight Award program. She is highly involved in the Council of College and Military Educators. Additionally, she has served on projects designed to develop and enhance institutional relationships with the military community and the military student. She serves on the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves committee of Alaska, and is a Co-Vice Chair of the Board of the American Red Cross of Alaska.

McAfee received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Alaska Southeast.
