EDIR Self Reset

Self reset of your EDIR password is only possible if you have configured your EDIR account in support of self resets. If you have not done so, contact your campus Help Desk to request a password reset.

The remainder of this document consists of two parts:

  1. Configuring your EDIR account for self resets.

  2. Performing a self reset.

Private Question is displayed to you during the self reset process. It can be any word or phrase. Its purpose is to help you remember the value you established for Private Response.

Private Response is something you must supply during the self reset process. It can be any word or phrase, however, it should be something that others would not easily guess or infer from your Private Question.

If a value is established for Email Account, EDIR sends email notifications after successful self resets and password changes.

NOTE: Update errors, if any, are reported at the bottom of the Personal and Private update forms. Successful updates in the Personal Update form are reflected in the "Update/Delete" section of the Personal Update form.

Successful updates in the Private Update form can be confirmed by clicking on the associated link in the "Private Items" section of the Private Update form.

To perform a self reset:

  1. Connect to EDIR: https://edir.alaska.edu

  2. Click the Self Reset link.

  3. Identify your account:

    1. Enter your User Name

    2. Enter your default EDIR password

    3. Select User Name Type
(EDIR unless other type of user name supplied)

    4. Click the Continue button

  4. Confirm you are the account owner:

Your Private Question is displayed only if you entered a correct user name value and default password.

    1. Enter the value you established previously for Private Response

    2. Click the Reset Password button

The Private Response field is case insensitive. It matters not what case you use when keying the value, only that the value matches.

Successful self reset results in a 'Password successfully reset' message. Failure results in a redisplay of the self reset Credentials form.

Immediately following a successful self reset, you should login to EDIR and reset your password (see steps 1 & 2 in the "Configuring" section of this document).

A few important reminders...

Self resets can be performed only after you have established your Private Question and Response. If you have not done so, then you must contact your campus Help Desk to request and EDIR password reset.

When establishing a Private Question and Private Response, take care that the question does not "give away" the response and that the response is not easily guessed. Do not place your account at risk by establishing obvious questions or responses.

EDIR relies on the value you establish for Mail Account. If present, EDIR will send email notification whenever a self reset or password change is successfully completed.
