Wireless & Walk-Up Ports
In addition to the labs on campus and the Ethernet hookups in Residence Halls and Offices, Wireless Ethernet and Walk-Up Ports are provided for students, faculty, and staff with laptops.
UAF has wireless networking available on campus. Our network is an IEEE 802.11b/g compliant providing speeds up to 54Mb/s (megabits per second).
The wireless network is not intended to replace the current wired network in offices or dorm rooms. Rather, it is intended to be used with laptops around campus as needed for classes, meetings and presentations.
The first step to setting up your computer to use the wireless network or walk up ports is to obtain the document Internet in the Residence Halls. Follow the directions in the document to set your computer up for DHCP. You will need a UAF email account to use either the wireless or walkup services. We have successfully tested Lucent Orinoco and Airport cards on the wireless network, although others may work.
The wireless network will be expanded in the future to include additional campus locations.

The wireless network is funded in part by grants from the Technology Advisory Board. Your student technology fees at work!
