If you are an unmanaged on-campus user (students in the residence halls
can not do this) and want to convert AntiVirus into managed mode, follow
these instructions:
How to go from an unmanaged to a managed installation
Situation:
You performed an unmanaged installation of the Symantec (or Norton) AntiVirus
Corporate Edition. You want to convert this to a managed installation
instead.
To copy the Grc.dat file to the client:
Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus versions lower than 7.5 are no longer supported.
- If your AntiVirus version is from 7.5-9.0:
- For Windows 2000 or XP clients
- the GRC.DAT file must be copied to the following folder:
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5\
NOTE: The Application Data folder is hidden as the default under Windows
2000. To view, select the option "Show hidden files or folders"
found on the View tab of Folder Options. -- or copy/paste this into Start>Run
After a few minutes, the SAVCE client will find the Grc.dat file in
this folder. SAVCE will make the appropriate changes to the registry
and delete the file. The next time that the client checks in with
the parent server, it will display in SSC. You can force the check-in
by starting and then stopping the AntiVirus Client service on the
client or by rebooting.
For additional information, see the Installation Documentation.
