Campus Technology Services Policies

Computing Labs:
Computer resources are available for use by university students, faculty, and staff for educational, research, and or administrative purposes only. In addition, the following policies apply:

  • Software updates and upgrades: Requests must be submitted 2 weeks in advance.
    Software updates and or upgrades will be accomplished during semester breaks. All request received during a semester will be held until the following semester break.

  • Patrons that require lab computing resources for academic purposes have priority over all computing hardware and software, at all times.

  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

  • Patrons must not engage in activities that disturb other patrons, including yelling, banging, tapping, singing, talking loud on cell phones, and cursing.

  • Use of University computing resources for financial gain is illegal.

  • The lab is for academic use only. Playing games and using programs such as Muds, Mushes, Chat, IRC, are strictly prohibited.

  • Patrons cannot utilize more than one computer to duplicate (burn) CD's.

  • Patrons shall not install software on any computer, at any time. Patrons that violate this policy will be banned from the labs. Additional software installations must be requested through Campus Technology Services (CTS).

  • Using university computers for illegal purposes and or activity is strictly prohibited and enforced at all times.

  • Food and or drink are not allowed within 5 feet of all computing hardware and software.
  • Patrons are not allowed to install software on computers.

  • All requests for software installation must be approved by CTS.

  • Patrons are not authorized to store data on local computer hard drives. All stored data is deleted daily.

  • The Office of Information Technology and or its departments ARE NOT responsible for, and shall be held harmless for all data loss, infected files, removable media such as flash drives, or the inability of patrons to utilize computing resources.

  • This is a public lab. Nothing done in this lab should be considered private. This includes the typing of passwords, e-mail messages and word processing documents.

  • Web browsing shall not include sexually explicit material or other items which may be considered sexual harassment. For a definition of sexual harassment, please refer to The Alaska Human Rights Law (AS 18.80.220).

  • CTS reserve the right to close computing labs for class or training use.

  • Users of CD burners should follow Title 17 of the US Code regarding copyright law. Do not violate copyright law! See the U.S. Copyright Office for more information.

Smart Classrooms:
  • All classroom equipment is the property of the University of Alaska.Any unauthorized removal of classroom equipment, for any reason, will be fully investigated and violators will be fully prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

  • Smart classroom podiums must not be moved for any reason.

  • Smart classroom equipment must not be unplugged, removed, disconnected, or borrowed. Any of these actions may be viewed as stealing.
