In September 1999, President Mark Hamilton established the University of Alaska's Statewide Office of Federal Relations in Washington, D.C. Our DC office joins thirty-three other universities with a presence in the nation's capitol.

The office functions as the primary contact with Alaska's Congressional Delegation, advocating for UA's federal funding and legislative priorities. When Congress is in session, the office reports regularly on Congressional activities to all three campuses through the chancellors' offices.

Our Office of Federal Relations also interacts with numerous federal agencies to advance the University's many interests.

Beyond these specific hands-on connections with the executive and administrative branches of government, the OFR establishes a presence and a voice for the University of Alaska at the many post-secondary association meetings that take place in Washington, D.C.
