Financial Aid Top 10 List
Things every UA student should know about financial aid.
- UA awards roughly $100 million per year in financial aid, with around half of all undergraduates receiving aid. Many more students might qualify if they applied. There is a LOT of financial aid available.
- Regardless of your family’s income, there is financial aid you can qualify for by completing the FAFSA.
- Degree seeking students can receive financial aid for classes that are offered at other UA campuses as well as their home campus. Even part-time students in degree programs can receive financial aid.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov as early as possible to learn your eligibility for financial aid. It takes as little as 15-30 minutes to complete, and you can complete this BEFORE your taxes are done using estimated figures.
- Apply for admission and scholarships early and meet deadlines. Some of the "free money" programs have deadlines as early as February 15th, and others have funds that are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
- Correspondence from your financial aid office will be sent to your university e-mail account, so check your e-mail and UAOnline at www.uaonline.alaska.edu frequently for updates and information.
- Read, read, and read. Avoid pitfalls and unnecessary delays in receiving your financial aid by reading and responding quickly to requests for more information.
- Your campus financial aid office provides workshops throughout the year for assistance in completing the FAFSA form and other useful topics.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help or to ask questions.
