President Hamilton has selected the following individuals to serve as the Conference Steering Committee:

Ian-Michael Hebert

Steering Committee Chair

University of Alaska Fairbanks

 
Born and raised in Fairbanks, Ian-Michael Hebert feels the rivers of the interior in his veins and the heights of Denali in his soul. Currently, Ian is working as a journeyman for the local 1243 carpenters union building the Cold Climate Research Center's Research and Testing Facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  He is also feverishly working on building his own house for his wife and six month old daughter, Solstice. Ian has worked as a home builder, Government Relations Director for the Associated Students of UAF, and is an active member of the UAF community.  His passion for Alaska and her people is exhibited by his adventurous spirit, service at UAF, and his leadership roles in the general community.
 

Kortney Hintsala

University of Alaska Anchorage

 

Kortney Hintsala, Student Body Vice-President for the University of Alaska Anchorage, is a pre-med Senior double-majoring in Spanish and History. A graduate of Dimond High School and a UA Scholar, Hintsala spent her first year at the University of New Mexico. She joined the sorority Chi Omega, serving as Public Relations Chair for one semester.  She returned to Alaska in May 2003, beginning classes at UAA in the fall of '03 before attending the University of Granada (Spain) for the spring 2004 term through UAA's study abroad program.  Upon her return to Alaska, she left for one month of volunteering in Mexico.  In fall 2004, she joined UAA's student government, serving as pro-temp of the finance committee and as a member of the activities committee.  Since that time, she has served as co-chair of the finance committee and a member of the rules committee as well as participating in the 2005 Coalition of Student Leaders Legislative Conference in Juneau.

 

Benjamin Shier

University of Alaska Southeast

 

Benjamin Shier was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska and is his fourth year at the University of Alaska Southeast. A UA Scholar and the past student body vice president, he has been involved in campus as a student senator, student ambassador, and an active member of the Ultimate Frisbee Club and a leader the BCM campus Bible study Club. He works full time for the Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Behavioral Health as the webmaster. When not at school or work, he loves spending time with his bride Elizabeth, and playing basketball. Very active in his church, he is very interested in key issues affecting our state.

 

Jessica Lewis

University of Alaska Fairbanks - Kuskokwim Campus

 

Jessica Lewis is a second year student at the Kuskokwim Campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (KuC). Working full-time at the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) in Bethel, she attends university part-time. Raised in Chefornak, a coastal village southwest of Bethel, she is a graduate of Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka. This is her second year in KuC’s student government and she hopes to add a voice to bettering Alaska’s future.

 

Meagan Gleason

Juneau Economic Development Council

 
Meagan Gleason joined the Juneau Economic Development Council in February of 2004 as Business Development Manager. Recently back to Alaska, Meagan has spent the past seven years in North Carolina where she was the Vice President of The Save Valley Conservation Co., a manufacturer of high end handcrafted home accents. Prior to Save Valley, Meagan held the Director of Production position at ShyGenius, an enterprise software technology venture. Meagan also worked at Ashton Brand Group, a brand consulting firm, where she assisted leading companies such as American Express, Sony, Volkswagen, and Visa in achieving their branding and marketing objectives. Meagan's experience with starting companies in multiple industries has prepared her to promote an environment in Alaska of creativity and innovation, all while driving economic growth.
 

Sarah Sherry

First Alaskans Institute

 

Sarah Sherry joined the staff of First Alaskans Institute in January 2003 as Program Officer. Born and raised in Fairbanks, Sarah is a graduate of West High School in Anchorage and the University of Washington in Seattle. Sarah is also a graduate of the Doyon Management Training Program and Leadership Anchorage.
Her parents are Paul and Robin Sherry. Her grandparents are Edward and Eleanor Sherry, and Walter and Louis Titus of Minto. Her great-grandfather is Athabascan Traditional Chief Peter John.
Following her graduation in 2001, Sarah worked as a Morris K. Udall intern for Senator Patty Murray in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining First Alaskans Institute, Sarah was employed at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, she also interned at Doyon, Ltd., where she worked on the Get Out the Native Vote campaign.
Sarah is Athabascan Indian from the village of Minto, Caribou Tail tribe. She is a Doyon shareholder.
Sarah’s community activities include the Alaska Native Professionals Association, Get Out the Native Vote, Alaska Independent Blind, and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She also serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Doyon Foundation Board of Directors. She enjoys hunting, fishing, and berry picking.

 

Patrick Race

Lucid Reverie Productions

 
Patrick Race is a lifelong Alaskan and graduate of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He makes his home in Juneau and spends his time creating short films and running Lucid Reverie, a small media firm which he started with fellow UAF Alum Aaron Suring.
 

Mark Graves

Lynden Transport

 

Mark Graves, born and raised in Alaska, is a graduate of the University of Alaska Southeast. He is the former two-term Student Body President of the United Students of the University of Alaska Southeast as well as former Legislative Affairs Coordinator for the University of Alaska Coalition of Student leaders. Mark graduated from UAS with a Degree in Business Administration. Mark also earned a certificate in Global Logistics Management from the University of Vaxjo, Sweden which he received while on exchange through the University of Alaska System. Mark began his career path in Transportation/Logistics Management as an intern with Lynden Transport, part of the Lynden Companies, and now works as an Account Executive in Lynden Transport’s Anchorage office.
