Jim Johnsen began serving as Vice President for Administration in March 2006. His previous positions since coming to the University of Alaska in 1996 include Vice President for Faculty and Staff Relations, Chief of Staff, and Director of Labor Relations. In addition to his administrative duties, he has taught a variety of courses in political science and management, given presentations at national meetings, and served on the boards of several professional and community organizations. His education includes a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's in political science from the University of Chicago, and a bachelor's in politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
